2012 Beartrap Summer Festival Headliners Announced
Townsquare Media of Casper announces double the fun and excitement with two headline acts for the 18th annual Beartrap Summer Festival! “We’re very excited to have the Marshall Tucker Band with us on Saturday, August 4th, and Steve Earle on Sunday, August 5th ,” said festival coordinator Jana Price.
The Marshall Tucker Band has defied almost 40 years of attempts to pigeonhole them in a narrow musical category. According to lead singer Doug Gray, who has been with the band since its beginnings in 1973, "They called us a Southern rock band, but we have always played everything from country, jazz, blues, rock and roll and all things in-between. As we've become older, our Southern heritage seems to come out even more. But no matter how old we get, we can still rock your socks off." Along the way, they earned seven gold and three platinum albums and landed hits on the Hot 100, Country, Rock, and Gospel charts.
In 1986, Steve Earle’s debut record “Guitar Town” shot to the top of the charts and spawned the term “new country.” In the decades that followed, his wide-ranging mix of biting hard rock, minimalist beauty, and poetic story-telling has never left fans wanting for variety. His ability to spin a tale has led to songs recorded by Willie Nelson, Travis Tritt, Waylon Jennings, Joan Baez and more, a novel linked to his most recent album “I’ll Never Get Out of This World Alive,” and several notable turns as an actor including the acclaimed HBO series “The Wire” and “Treme.” Through his career, he has been honored with fourteen Grammy nominations and three wins. At Beartrap, Steve Earle will perform with his band The Dukes (and Duchesses) featuring Allison Moorer.
Both days of the festival feature a full line-up of some regionally and nationally known bluegrass bands, and a special surprise opening act will take the stage on Sunday afternoon before Steve Earle’s performance. Beartrap will once again include an open-air marketplace full of arts, crafts, and more; a wide variety of tempting foods from cold drinks and snacks to hot meals; a supervised children’s area with arts and crafts projects; a yoga tent where festival-goers can bliss out; and Beartrap Down From the Mountain -- a Saturday evening concert at The Attic in downtown Casper.
Townsquare Media of Casper, the Natrona County Roads, Bridges and Parks Department, and the McMurry Foundation are proud to once again partner together to sponsor the Beartrap Summer Festival.
