Beartrap Summer Festival 2012 is in full swing here on Casper Mountain and we are rocking and rolling to the tunes of Town Mountain. The sun is shining, the birds are chirping, the coffee is flowing (thank God), and the music of this awesome band is blaring. Town Mountain encompasses everything we love about bluegrass- guitars, banjos, fiddles and more- this band has it all. We absolutely love it when we can bring Wyoming artists to Beartrap and this duo (sometimes quartet) from Jackson Hole is no exception. I caught up with the members of Screen Door Porch in the Beartrap "Green Room" and asked them about their Sophomore album The Fate & The Fruit
As if two days of live music weren't enough, the folks who are bringing you Beartrap Summer Festival 2012 decided that you deserved a little extra. Because of this, they decided to put on their 2nd Annual Down From The Mountain show at The Attic. This year, Casper's own Dang Ol' Boys performed alongside Halden Wofford and the Hi Beams(who played earlier in the day at Beartrap)to a raucous crowd.
The Marshall Tucker Band are living legends. There's no simpler way to put it. These 40+ year veterans of the bluegrass scene exude confidence with every note they sing/play. They are pros in ever sense of the word. Now, after recently playing at the Grand Ole Opry, MTB is headling Beartrap Summer Festival 2012. Quite frankly, they proved exactly why they should be headlining this stage. The guys are amazing. They have a jazz flute! A freaking jazz flute! Here are some pics from the set.
I love this band. They're fun, energetic, passionate and talented. Oh! Also, they yodel. I love yodeling. It's probably my favorite thing in the world. If ya don't believe me, check out these videos and tell me that you don't want to learn how to yodel immediately.
Obviously, if you can't tell, we absolutely love Beartrap Summer Festival. It's something that we literally base our entire year around. We get giddy as soon as summer hits, because we know it won't be long before we get to be in the meadow with our friends, listening to incredible bands. But the fact is, it's not our opinion that matters; it's yours. So we took to the 'streets' (and by streets we mean the meadow), to ask what YOU think of Beartrap Summer Festival. Here's what you said.
Beartrap Summer Festival is all about the atmosphere. The Beartrap Meadow is a great place for enjoying music, food and friends, but in 2012 the dry and dusty weather is also part of that atmosphere. For those wearing sandals this means gross, dusty feet.
I think my favorite state for bands is Colorado. Some of the greatest bands I've ever heard have come from the Rocky Mountains. Halden Wofford and the Hi Beams is a perfect example of this. This band blends honky tonk, rock and bluegrass seamlessly and the best part about them is that they really seem to have fun when they're playing. Oh! Also, they yodel. Any band that yodels is ok with me.
Let me put it this way... any bluegrass band that has a megaphone in their bag of tricks is okay in my book. This is the second year in a row that I have seen The 23 String Band play Beartrap and they continue to exceed my expectations. Also, considering the incredible weather that we've seen so far this weekend, this could almost the the anthem of the festival.
